Rules of the game have been rewritten

By Luke Johnson                                                                   Financial Times
Entrepreneurs of the 21st century are different. The world of business has changed a lot since I entered it in the 1980s, and the rules of the game have been totally rewritten. An important factor has been the influence of the Internet. Many start-ups are now online companies or use the Internet in some way. A 26-yearold such as Mark Zuckerberg can create a community of 500 million users with Facebook - employing just 1,000 staff. Facebook is also an example of how investors are willing - sometimes - to back projects that have almost no sales revenues, believing that a profitable business model will come later, as it did with Google.
Every young company now uses social networking as one of its marketing tools. An understanding of how to use Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and the rest is important for the success of almost any brand targeted at the young. Each new wave of technology is accepted very quickly. Things used to evolve much more gradually in the past.
Start-ups are far more likely to be founded by graduates than they used to bee. In the past six years in the UK, there has been a 46 percent jump in the number of graduates describing themselves as self-employed. I am sure that it will continue partly because comfortable jobs are much harder to get. Of course, many more people attend university now; yet when I left Oxford, it was seen by many as “wasting” a degree to want to create a business.
Women entrepreneurs are much more common than in the past, with almost one in three in three UK startups in 2009 founded by a woman. Now women are much more confident and ambitious in their careers, and there are plenty of role models of successful women in the workplace.

  1. The article headlined “Rules of the game have been rewritten” is written by Luke Johnson  for Financial Times.
The author touches upon the problem of using social networking as one of its marketing tools. The world of business has changed very much under the influence of the Internet. The largest companies are ready to implement social networks in their companies, to support projects that have almost no sales revenue, relying on the further emergence of profit, as was the case with many companies. The advent of the internet has greatly affected the development of all things, in the past they developed much more slowly. The author also says that at the moment women have begun to take root in business, they are more ambitious stalkers and many of them have become role models. From my point of views The internet has helped many in self-realization, especially women who can now provide for themselves without leaving their homes and this is very good
